"The crucible of North American neo-liberal transformation is heating up, but its outcome is far from clear. There is a growing clash between the corporate neo-liberal offensive and the forces of resistance. This book is the first to examine the neo-liberal integration and transformation of Canada, Mexico and the United States from both a pan-continental and class struggle perspective. The failure of traditional labor responses to stop the continental offensive being waged by big business has led workers and unions to explore new strategies of struggle and organization, such as greater international solidarity, cross-border organization and a rejection of anti-immigrant and racist forms of job protection. Their efforts build upon two long-existing bi-national links: the cross-border character of the Mexican working class and the cross-border character of CanadianU.S. unions. Recent developments between unions, other workers' organizations and informal networks across these three countries point to the beginnings of a continental labor movement.
The battle for the future of North America has begun.".
