When steam locomotives disappeared from Britain's railways in the 1960s, many railway lines went with them. Over the years, many of the diesels that replaced steam initially have likewise been removed from service. Today, we are fortunate to have a wide range of preserved lines and locomotives available for us to visit and to appreciate. In this book, Ross Taylor brings together all the preserved mainline diesel locomotives (Class 15 upwards) in northern England, showing them line by line and highlighting owning preservation groups, most of which rely entirely on volunteer labour and generous donors to fund the restoration.
