Carolyn Stone, Ed.D., is a professor of counselor education at the University of North Florida, where she teaches and researches in the area of school counselors and accountability. She also guides school counselors negotiating the legal and ethical complications of working with minors in schools. Prior to becoming a counselor educator in 1995, Dr. Stone spent twenty-two years with Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida, where she served as a middle school teacher, elementary and high school counselor. She also supervised 225 school counselors. She was the 2006 president of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and is in her twentieth year as ASCA's ethics chair.

In 2010, ASCA awarded Dr. Stone its highest honor--the Mary Gerke Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2012, she was awarded the Florida School Counselor's Association's Robert Myrick Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Stone was the principal investigator (PI) of the Transformed School Counselor Initiative and is currently the PI for her fourth GEAR UP grant. She is the past president of the Florida Counseling Association and the Florida Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors. She has delivered more than 700 workshops in 50 states and 18 countries and has authored three books, including SCHOOL COUNSELING PRINCIPLES: ETHICS AND LAW. She has also written dozens of journal articles and more than one hundred ASCA columns.

Dr. Stone's professional path in middle school teaching, elementary and high school counseling and supervision for counselors in a large urban school district and counselor education has equipped her with firsthand experience and understanding of the professional world of school counselors.
