Resulting from a combination of field research, extensive literature surveys, and photographic reports, this book synthesizes several disciplines--including systematics, taxonomy, biogeography, and ecology--in one indispensable guide for naturalists, herpetologists, and managers of Pyrenean natural areas. Five-hundred original color photographs taken exclusively in situ at altitudes ranging from 2 to 3,143 meters illustrate information on the phenotypic variation and ecological characteristics of Pyrenean snakes, lizards, and turtles, while authoritative distribution maps complement biogeographic information.
