Key Selling Points This is the first public telling of Jeremy Evans''s remarkable story. Media reports of the attack were reported via all major news networks in Canada (2017), but Jeremy never granted any interviews until now. Jeremy had been scouting for hunting spots prior to the opening of the bighorn sheep season when the bear attacked in order to protect her cubs. Jeremy''s injuries were massive. His skull had been opened, a large part of his scalp removed and the neck was extremely damaged too. His face had been destroyed, one eye dangling down, his jaw hanging down too. An ear was missing although he would only notice much later. The tendons on one leg had been fully severed during the mauling.
His hands were damaged. He was bleeding so badly and with one eye dangling he could barely see. When he finally reached his gun he fired with abandon. He wondered if he should reserve the last bullet to use on himself. After the attacks, Jeremy was somehow able to text his wife multiple times during his escape even though no cell service existed so deep in the foothills (copies of the texts exist). He thought about his wife and their six month old daughter. His love for them drove his actions from beginning to end. In total, Jeremy went through two 13 hour operations and a 6 hour operation, and required more than 1000 sutures and 1000 staples.
Doctors said it would probably be a year before he could go back to work. That schedule was not for him. He set constant goals to be back at work, hunting and fishing much sooner. Seven weeks after the incident he was back to work full time, riding his bike back and forth 11 kilometres each way even in winter. It is a true story of phenomenal determination, the gritty triumph of the desire to live over the acceptance of death, and how passion and love powered an unwillingness to die when it would have been the easiest option to accept.
