Having little control of her life and future, Veronica was living in a state of dismay, but when her husband died in questionable circumstances she was forced to leave the confines of rural middle class Ireland and found herself living in poverty stricken urban Dublin of the early 1900's. Dublin at the time was a turbulent city that was rife with strikes, poverty, disease, and blatant prostitution. Veronica a free spirited young woman who was odds with the conventions of her time was determined to survive with her two young children. She struggled against all the odds and did whatever was necessary to make a life for herself and her family.
