Annie Rose, an acute observer of everything, explores issues encountered by America's fledgling 1917 intelligence community: Learning cryptanalysis, identifying spies in the ranks, understanding the true story of the Zimmermann Telegrams, and exploring contributions and unrecognized influences of Britain's Secret Intelligence Service. The novel also uncovers the forgotten influence of the SIS's Claude Dansey. Through the actions and behaviors of Annie, her younger sister Emma, and the men at the Army War College, the novel reveals various aspects of disability culture. Navigating the intrigues of espionage is difficult enough but the challenges faced by our female protagonist at the Army War College is as formidable, if not more so.
