Roe V. Wade : The Right to Choose
An unmarried pregnant woman challenged a Texas statute that made it illegal to perform an abortion unless a woman's life was at stake. The decision made by the Supreme Court in 1973 sided with Roe, striking down the Texas law. It was the first time the court recognized our constitutional right to privacy encompassed a woman's decision on whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. Roe v. Wade has become known as the case that legalized abortion nationwide.
