Billy Duffy, guitarist with The Cult, writes in the foreword: 'I'm happy to be involved with this book about Stuart Cable. [.] I loved the Stereophonics. They were unashamed to rock. I felt they were the kindred spirit to The Cult.' This, as Collins says, is not a biography of either Stuart Cable or The Stereophonics. It is, however, the story of a young drummer from a village in Wales who played the drums and drummed his way to fame and fortune across the globe. There is humour and pathos, intrigue and new beginnings.

The first half of the book deals mainly with the rise to fame of Cable himself and of the Stereophonics. It had been a hard slog getting to the top in one of the rock'n'roll world's most elite bands, having been a lad in the Welsh mining community of Cwmaman. The latter half of the book tells of Cable's falling-out with the band after 'You've Gotta Go There To Come Back' was released in June 2003. Cable's break with the band came shortly after this, the group's fourth album and their third consecutive number one in the UK. The crunch had come when Cable had a 'phone call from Kelly (they had started the band together as children). 'He simply said, ";That's it! You're out of the band!"; But I was like ";Alright. Cool!";' It took a while but, as Collins writes, behind the affable and joke-filled character, Cable is a dedicated musician with drive and ambition and he went on to launch a new band called Killing for Company. This is a fascinating and knowledgeable insight into the world of a rock musician, written by a man who obviously knows his subject and is an accomplished raconteur and writer.
