Glass art is one of the most rapidly expanding art forms today. This book will contribute to the exploration of current techniques and open the international discourse on what we do as glass artists and how far we can stretch the material. The readers will have a cohesive understanding of the many aspects of p'te de verre and be able to use the how-to section to make their own glass objects with their own glass colors. The readers will also gain an understanding of the innovative possibilities that p'te de verre has provided in its long history and how open and exciting this field is today. While often thought of as a cumbersome method for making delicate and precious objects like flowers and butterflies, the p'te de verre of today is "showing muscles" as a sculptural medium without regard for limitations in size or content. One example is the work of US artist Geoffrey Bowton, who employs p'te de verre to re-create the boots, helmet, and gear he used as a soldier in Afghanistan to tell a narrative of the lives and losses of American service men and women. The book also opens up for a discussion about glass itself, what we perceive it to be and why.
