This collection will reprint the first six plays included in The Collected Short Plays of Thornton Wilder, Volume I (9781559361316), published by TCG in 1997. The plays were first published in 1931. The new edition with have French fold flaps. We are working on finding someone to write a preface for this collection - TBD. 2022 is the 125th anniversary of Thornton Wilder's birth. The Thornton Wilder Society is planning a big event to commemorate the anniversary. Thornton Wilder is recognized as one of the most important writers in the American canon. He is the only writer to have won a Pulitzer for both fiction (The Bridge of San Luis Rey) and drama (Our Town, The Skin of Our Teeth).
Wilder is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Our Town, which remains one of the most produced Americans play in the world. Edward Albee described Our Town as "the greatest American play ever written." Wilder's other many honors include the Gold Medal for Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Book Committee's Medal for Literature, and the Goethe-Plakette Award (Germany).
