This four-volume illustrated catalog of Chinese paintings in worldwide collections outside China represents more than thirty years of research by scholars at the University of Tokyo's Institute of Oriental Culture. Profusely illustrated with reproductions representing the highest printing standards, the catalog updates and summarizes a previously published series, providing scholars and connoisseurs alike with comprehensive information on more than four thousand paintings in one hundred forty-four collections outside the People's Republic of China. Three volumes catalog the holdings of collections in Japan, North America, and Southeast Asia and Europe; each painting is reproduced in at least one illustration and identified with the attributed artist's name, dimensions, and date of work. The fourth volume is a general index (by collection, artist, and type and theme of painting) combining the listings in both this series and the one previously published (now out of print).
