All around the world, information and communication technologies (ICT) are being used to meet contemporary urgent challenges such as climate change, environmental pollution, and resource scarcity. The digital transformation is changing cities significantly. Artificial Intelligence, ICTs, real-time information, or Big Data result in new demands on urban space. The book presents the specific and critical spatial dimension of urban digitalization processes. The focus of the research is the digitization-related spatial transformation of the district. Radostina Radulova-Stahmer reveals the necessity of a public welfare-oriented approach of urban development in the digital transformation, which combines spatial with technological aspects and thus goes far beyond the neoliberal concept of the smart city.
