Concrete folded plate roofs, used to cover large expanses of open space, can pose complex design problems soluble only through detailed mathematical analysis such as that used in this book. According to Gaafar an approximate theory showed an average discrepancy of ±200% in longitudinal stresses and erred greatly (from +60% to -280%) on the unsafe side for transverse stresses. This book introduces the engineer to technical schemes and practicalities, and goes on to provide an extensive range of useful design tables. These tables allow linear interpolation for a large range of folded plate roofs and so help the engineer with their designs. Design examples using both SI and USA (British Imperial) units are provided using these tables. Book jacket.
