He has led track design projects for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-speed Railway, Hangzhou-Changsha High-speed Railway, and Nanchang-Ganzhou High-speed Railway. His expertise includes designing continuous welded rail with welded turnouts, master slab track, bi-block sleeper ballast-less tracks, and ballast-less track designs. Shijie Zhang is the director of the Track Institute at China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd. and a professor engineer. He focuses on high-speed railway and urban rail transit track engineering structure design, continuous welded rail, and the research and application of intelligent construction and operation and maintenance technology. He has been responsible for track design on projects such as the Nanjing-Hangzhou, Hangzhou-Ningbo, and Hangzhou-Huangshan High-speed Railways.
