Dr David J Jefferson is a Senior Lecturer Above the Bar at the University of Canterbury School of Law, where he teaches Environmental Law, Land Law, and Intellectual Property. David is a legal anthropologist whose research covers a range of issues related to biodiversity conservation, biotechnology regulation, intellectual property in the agricultural and food sectors, ecosystem rights laws, and the protection of Indigenous knowledge systems. The field sites where David works are in Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, and the Andean Community of South America. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Queensland (2019) and a JD from the University of California, Davis (2014). David has been the recipient of several competitive research awards, including a United States Fulbright fellowship (2016) for work in Ecuador. Christian Riffel , PhD (2014), Bern, is Professor of International Economic Law at the University of Canterbury, Aotearoa New Zealand. He is editor of the WTO TRIPS Commentary (Brill) and contributor to the Encyclopedia of Public International Law. In addition, he is Co-Chair of the International Economic Law Interest Group of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law and a member of the International Law Association Committee on Rule of Law and International Investment Law.

Chris is on the list of suitable arbitrators for EU trade agreements and also serves as the Honorary Consul of Germany in the South Island of New Zealand.
