Elena Conde is a Professor of Public International Law at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), where she has been teaching since 1997. She holds a PhD in Law from UCM ( cum laude , January 1997) and has received prestigious awards including the the Extraordinary Bachelor's Degree Award in Public Law and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. With a robust teaching career, her research achievements include leadership of multiple national and international research projects, and membership in various research groups. She has authored five monographs, co-authored one, edited multiple collective works, and published extensively in journals and conference proceedings. Her primary research interests include the Arctic region, the law of the sea, treaty law, climate change, the European Union, terrorism and State responsibility and human rights. She led the first Spanish social sciences' funded research project focused on the Arctic region (DER2012-36026). She was the first social and human sciences Spanish delegate before IASC (2013-2021). She led the WP6 -Legal and Regulatory Policy Frameworks- of the H2020 project JUSTNORTH (869327).
Elena Conde has significantly contributed to knowledge transfer, media engagement, and advisory roles. She served as Chief Inspector at UCM (2019-2024). In July 2024, she was awarded the Medal of Honor by UCM. Dr. Corine Wood-Donnelly is an Associate Professor of International Relations and the High North at Nord University. She has regional expertise in the Arctic with substantive knowledge of governance frameworks, maritime law, and state practices. Her research interests include normative evolutions in Arctic sovereignty and governance, maritime search and rescue, maritime territory and resource sovereignty, performative geopolitics, values in sustainability and Arctic justice. As a scholar of the Arctic, Corine conducts interdisciplinary work within International Relations and political geography, also drawing from public international law, history and theories of justice.
She was the Scientific Coordinator for the EU funded project JUSTNORTH (GA 869327) and Coordinates the Arctic Research Initiative at Nord University.
