Simon Wilton is head of the Professional Negligence Group at Hailsham Chambers, a set which specialises in professional liability claims, including claims against all kinds of property professionals. Simon was called to the Bar in 1993 and is a senior junior barrister. He is on the Executive Committee of the Professional Negligence Bar Association. Simon was short-listed by Chambers & Partners as Professional Negligence Junior of the Year in 2014 and 2016. He hopes to take silk in the next 3 years. He frequently acts for claimants and defendants in many kinds of professional liability disputes, and has a particular interest in claims against property professionals including valuers and surveyors, estate agents and auctioneers. He has over the years been involved in large numbers of claims alleging negligence against valuers and surveyors, and has dealt with numerous disputes of all kinds in relation to estate agents. Claims against auctioneers are less common but Simon is also well acquainted with the case-law in that area too.
He has also defended estate agents, surveyors and valuers in disciplinary proceedings before their professional bodies. Simon also lectures widely, to solicitors and others. He was formerly a co-editor of the Lloyds Law Reports (Professional Negligence) series of law reports and currently writes the 'Damages' chapter in the Professional Negligence and Liability loose-leaf ed. Mark Simpson QC. He was formerly an editor of the much lamented Lloyd's Reports (Professional Negligence) series of law reports. He continues to edit the 'Damages' chapter in Professional Negligence and Liability.
