The story starts with the introduction of Alex and his father Professor Redman who invents a gate to be used in space for travelling through. This will make space travel faster and easier for future space exploration. But the first time it is used turns into disaster as the exit gate explodes and the ship with his son Alex on board vanishing.200 years later the ship re appears through a gate with no one on board, or so it seems. The story follows the fight for survival of a special forces team, that is sent to investigate a ship that has re appeared 200 years later.What starts out as a general search and bring the ship home turns into a fight with pure evil as the leader of the ship Illustrious tries to kill the team.At first the team encounter the Fetchers of the leader who drain the victims blood and the endorphins from the brain.But all the time J.

J who was telepathic felt that there was more on board than what they had seen already and later in the book they find out that there was more powerful evil than the Fetchers.The leader also turns out to be the son of the inventor of the space gates that are being used for space travel.The end of this story leads us to the second part:Dragen part two Mankind's struggle.
