The Cooper family took a big chance on working a deal with the State of Texas on property and cattle for Comanche Indians on a reservation given to them by the state. The Coopers' had to run a Sutter store for a year and keep the Indians from killing or destroying homes.Things went great until the Civil war came along and the United States Government moved the Indian Reservation to Indian Territory in Oklahoma Territory. The Coopers had a lot of Longhorn cattle but no Indians to give them to and receive their money from the State of Texas. Death and hardships caused by one man placed a very young man in charge of one or the largest ranches in Throckmorton County.
