Valery Zyryanov is Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor in Physics of Atmosphere and Hydrosphere. He published more then 95 scientific articles and 2 monographs. He is the author of the article 2.3.3.1. "Physical Properties of Sea Water Including Its Three Phases" in Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS). He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal "Water Resources".

During twenty eight years he is the Head of Laboratory of fluid dynamics in IWP RAS. He lectures hydrodynamics of rotational stratified fluid in Physical Faculty of Moscow State University "Lomonosov". His monograph "The Steady Ocean Current Theory" (1985, Leningrad, Gidrometeoizdat) presents the mathematical fundamentals of the steady ocean current theory with consideration of the bottom relief. The theory of ocean currents over ridges, seamounts and around islands is described . His monograph "Topographic Eddies in Sea Current Dynamics" (1995, Moscow) expounds results of theoretical and experimental studies of the dynamics of eddies above seamounts in oceans and seas.
