"e;Winkler's prose continues to exhibit his trademark grace and tact, yet it zeroes in on the intricacies of relationships and interactions among persons from different places and perspectives. Throughout the stories, he writes with generosity and insight about universal flaws and foibles of human nature and with nuanced sensitivity to the quirks of the general Jamaican character."e; (Society of Caribbean Studies Newsletter). "e;Winkler's collection of short fiction landed like a heavyweight comeback. With its dry yet rollicking Jamaican wit, it was not the West Indian humour to which we had become accustomed."e; (Anu Lakhan, The Caribbean Review of Books). It was the foul play that caused the annihilation of Fish, when the Devil was shot in the thick of a wrestling match. And there was only one way for the referee to put things right.

With another murder. Death stalks the pages in this darkly comical and occasionally tragic collection of stories, which is set partly in Jamaica, partly amongst the Jamaican diaspora of the United States. About the author: Anthony C. Winkler was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1942. He was educated at Mt. Alvernia Academy and at Cornwall College, both in Montego Bay; at Citrus College in Glendora, California; and at California State University in Los Angeles. He is the author or co-author of many college textbooks on rhetoric and English grammar that are widely used in American colleges and universities. His first novel, The Painted Canoe was published in 1984 to critical acclaim.

This was followed by The Lunatic (1987), The Great Yacht Race (1992), Going Home to Teach (1995) and The Duppy (1997). A short story collection, The Annihilation of Fish and Other Stories, was published in 2004 by Macmillan. He has also written two movies, The Lunatic (1991) and The Annihilation of Fish (1999). The Burglary, a play, was produced in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1993 and in Toronto in 2005.
