A tragedy - a play in four acts. A play, based on the biblical account from II Samuel of Joab, Abishai and Asahel, sons of King David's sister Zeruiah, from the fall of King Ishbosheth, the son of King Saul, to the murder of David's firstborn son Amnon by his other son Absalom. This play recounts the events as recorded in II Samuel from the perspective of Joab and Abishai, the sons of Zeruiah, without the gloss of the later-recorded history of I Chronicles, dimming the bright lights of David and Solomon and focusing on the machinations of David's older sons. The Sons of Zeruiah - Part I is part of a three-play cycle, including The Sons of Zeruiah - Part II, Absalom's Rebellion, and The Sons of Zeruiah - Part III - Sheba's Rebellion to Adonijah's Rebellion. The current edition of The Sons of Zeruiah - Part I is a "beta version," pending completion of Part II and Part III.
