The the World below the Brine
American poet Walt Whitman (1819-92) celebrated the wonder and wildness of both nature and humanity, leaving a towering legacy to the world with such works as Leaves of Grass. "The World Below the Brine," first published in 1860, was later included in the revised edition of Leaves of Grass. James Christopher Carroll is an author, illustrator, and graphic designer whose picture books include A Song, recently published by Creative Editions. He lives with his family in upstate New York.
