The story is taken from a very remarkable book, entitled Oriental Fairy Tales, which I read once in early childhood, but have never since had the good fortune to meet with. The work is one of those in which, - as in Lalla Rookh, - a number of detached tales are strung, gem-like, on the golden thread of a connecting narrative the central figure in this latter being the Wander ing Angel, whose various experiences give rise to the different tales.
