In the 1920s quantum mechanics, a microscopic theory, met general relativity, a macroscopic theory, head on and there was a clash and they never came together. Recent experiments finding human scale window to view quantum structures in their own frames of reference revealed the geometry where quantum mechanics operates. In addition a basic flaw was found in special relativity where potentials can now be included in the relativistic conservation of energy relations. These experiments required a new set of differential equations replacing the Schrodinger and Dirac equations to start the second century of quantum mechanics. This is a simple story of how a constant, the self-energy, was dropped by mistake in the 1920s when the Schrodinger and Dirac equations were produced. A non-relativistic development of quantum mechanics is not accurate as relativity plays a strong role at rest in bound structures. The Schrodinger equation by being non-relativistic sank quantum mechanics. Compounding this error were additional mistakes with a singularity in the Dirac equation that eventually pulled down physics as a whole.

Then following WWII Joseph Stalin directed his comrades in the late 1940s to infiltrate physics departments in the free world so that no future advances like atomic energy would be missed by the Soviets. By the mid 1970s this staffing subterfuge worked so well with the tenure system that not only physics departments in most universities were trashed. These politically selected faculties, taken from a narrow segment of the population ensured their incompetence, they then promoted the flaws already embedded in physics to freeze the subject producing generations of students that halted progress in physics. The estimated waste in the DoE's physical science research budget over 47 years since its inception because of the flawed quantum models it accepted as valid in all areas of physics in 2024 dollars amounts to ~.34 Trillion dollars. That does not include the wasted careers of thousands of physicists. Included with this history and description of the spaces where quantum mechanics and relativity operate is a complete tool box with the new differential equations at the end of the last chapter.
