Sustainable economic growth is of high interest to European cities; it is indispensable to further the well-being and prosperity of citizens and firms, and to generate employment. Thus, it is important to gain insight into the economic growth opportunities in cities. The general aim of this study is to increase the insight into new growth opportunities for European cities and to provide scope for urban policy. In each of the cities selected for study, one potential growth cluster was chosen on the basis of growth figures or the city's growth expectations and opportunities. The book provides a thoretical background, as well as a framework of reference to analyze the clusters in the nine cities involved. The case studies of the cities chosen are based on literature study, Internet resources, and in-depth interviewing.
