In writing about a very troubling time in my life, ¬¬¬¬it occurred to me I was also writing about a very troubling time in America¬ -- the Sixties -- when millions rejected the Vietnam War, conformity, and materialism, rallied for freedom and civil rights, and were part of a movement that seemed to erupt spontaneously across the country and many parts of the world. It is also in part the story of Dock Six at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle which at that time was the nexus of a merry band of nonconformists who with meagre resources and at times high risks, were fixing up old boats, sharing adventures, and reconnecting in a more meaningful way to a society that--like today's--seemed to have lost its moral compass.
