Jamie Thom (Author) After twelve years teaching and working in leadership roles across the UK, Jamie Thom left the classroom in August of 2022 to set up and run the English PGDE at Napier University in Edinburgh. The Essentials in Learning to Teach is his fifth book. He also hosts 'Beyond Survival: the new teacher podcast', a popular podcast for teachers at the start of their career. Colin McGill (Author) Colin McGill is an Associate Professor of Teacher Education at Edinburgh Napier University. Prior to this, he enjoyed 14 years as a science teacher and head of science in secondary schools in Scotland. As well as working with student teachers to develop their classroom craft, he also provides chemistry-specific professional development for existing teachers. He has written for several publications, including TES and Education in Chemistry . He is a co-host of Beyond Survival: the new teacher podcast and is passionate about supporting student teachers and novice teachers to develop their teaching practice.
