David Swinson spent the early 1980s as a punk rocker in Los Angeles, booking acts like Social Distortion, Nick Cave, John Cale, Chris Isaac and the Red Hot Chili Peppers into clubs and producing spoken word events with Hunter S. Thompson, Dr. Timothy Leary, John Waters and Jim Carroll. He produced the cult classic film "Roadside Prophets," starring John Doe of X and Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys and featuring Timothy Leary, John Cusack, David Carradine and Arlo Guthrie. In 1994, Swinson returned to his hometown of Washington DC to enter the Police Academy. He worked as an undercover narcotics officer, and worked robbery and homicide details, and in 2000 was promoted to the Special Investigations Bureau/Major Crimes, becoming the lead investigator in the District of Columbia for serial burglaries, high profile cases and organized criminal operations related to narco-fencing. He was often called upon by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Secret Service, The Treasury Department and Homeland Security, for assistance with sensitive cases. Swinson retired from the DCPD after 16 years.
