On the surface, the book of Ruth is a love story with all the intrigues and plots of a well written novel. The story is simple - A poor, outcast widow finding love and happiness from a wealthy benefactor. But, dig under the surface, and we find much more than a novel. It becomes a rich source of spiritual enlightenment giving insight in how we can deal with our own challenges.This book not only tells the story of Ruth, providing more historical and cultural background than given in the biblical account, it also brings very helpful application to us today. Through it, the reader will understand much more what God is doing in the 21st century as we wait for the Kingdom of God to be established, as well find ways to overcome personal challenges. Although initially produced for daily meditations the messages of the book can be equally learnt by a more speedy read.
