Philoctetes was perhaps the best received Sophocles play during his lifetime. It centers on Odysseus and his quest to get a bow which a prophecy has predicted will win the Trojan War. However, the owner of the bow, Philoctetes, hates Odysseus and the Greeks with a passion. The result is predictably tragic.
