The play picks up where Homer's epic the Iliad left off. Sophocles writes of the daughter of Agamemnon Electra and her brother Orestes. They both wish to avenge their father, who was murdered by their mother, Clytemnestra. Electra is considered to be one of the greatest plays of the Ancient World.
