Trudy Silverheels was born Linda Yazzie in Arizona and spent her early childhood there and in New Mexico. As a teenager and young adult she lived in Mexico City and earned a degree from National Autonomous University before returning to the USA for graduate studies at the University of Texas. She eventually made her home in Houston, Texas. She was a member of the Griffoun Society.
