Mark Ashley Sellers, Jr has earned 4 University Degrees at UNC, GWU, Union Theological Seminary in NYC before moving to Grand Rapids MI in 1969, where he served as Assistant Pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, then Organizer and Director of the AARP Senior Citizen Employment Agency (AARP SCEP), Community Organizer with a Neighborhood Association, Out-County Outreach Organizer and Social Worker with ACSET, Federal and State Endangered Species Surveyor, and other roles. He earned his 5th University degree at GVSU, William James College, in 1980, in Natural Resource Management and Analysis. He was an active catalytic change agent, creating long-term change, 1969 - 1995, working all through to help low-income people and others to become more independent and self-reliant, setting up long-term projects and agencies. He helped organize the neighborhood (NE Citizens Council) in the Coit/Belknap area 1969-72, the Northeast Community Action Program (CAP) Complex, establishing the Hill Community Day Care Center for working mothers, AARP SCEP to find jobs for persons 55 and over, establishing a new way to fund Neighborhood Associations more and longer, established a senior center owned in full by the North Kent Senior Citizens' Association (NKSCA), in his Endangered Species work, finding and protecting them - two thought to be extinct in the State of Michigan - wherever he found them in State and Midwest-wide surveys, including closing 2 rural roads and bridges to protect a species and to get one listed by the State and USFWS as Protected/Endangered/Threatened. Coming from the East Coast, his methods of making long-term change were controversial by conservative Midwestern standards, but he did accomplish, working with them, those long-range goals asked of him to do, even though once things were actually changing, they took actions to oust him every time.
