Kathy Schwalbe, Ph.D., PMP, is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Business Administration at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, where she primarily taught courses in project management and problem solving for business. Kathy's first job out of college was as a project manager/officer in the Air Force. She worked for 10 years in industry (Air Force, Boeing, and Clark Oil) before entering academia in 1991. Kathy is an active member of PMI. Kathy earned her Ph.D.


in Higher Education at the University of Minnesota, her MBA at Northeastern University's High Technology MBA program, and her B.S. in mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. She was named Educator of the Year in 2011 by the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Education Special Interest Group (EDSIG). Dan Furlong, PMP, FHIMSS, CPHIMS manages the Project Management Office for the Medical University of South Carolina and also teaches healthcare project management and healthcare technology in their Master in Health Administration program. Dan has served on advisory councils for multiple universities initiating or undergoing accreditation for project management programs. He has been an active member of the PMI Charleston chapter, serving on the board for the past ten years in a variety of roles including VP Professional Development, VP Marketing & Public Relations, VP Community Outreach, President, and Chairman. Dan is a graduate of the PMI Leadership Institute Master Class, a year-long development program offered by PMI to select chapter leaders worldwide.


Dan has served on the board of the South Carolina HIMSS chapter and has been a frequent speaker at state and national HIMSS conferences. He was recently named a HIMSS Fellow (FHIMSS) for his contributions to HIMSS and the industry. Dan has hosted multiple 8-hour project management workshops during the HIMSS pre-symposia, and has presented at many other regional, national and international conferences. He has also served on the board or as a board advisor to SC.GMIS, a statewide government technology professional organization, since 2003. He earned his undergraduate degree in Computer Science at the College of Charleston, his MBA at The Citadel, and is currently working on his dissertation for his Doctorate in Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.
