Dr M P Satija, who recently retired as a Professor from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India is in the library profession for the last four decades. As an author of more than twenty books, about 150 papers and 200 book reviews, numerous course material on classification for distance education students, and many conference papers published in India and abroad. His works have been translated into Hindi, Spanish, German, French and Croatian. His major contribution lies in enriching library science literature. No wonder many bibliometric studies in India have found him a prolific author. His association with professional library journals is long and varied ranging from journals such as Information Management Report (now ceased) (Bowker-Saur, UK), Library Times International (USA), Library Progress (Int), Library Herald (Delhi Library Association), Trends in Information Management (TRIM) (University of Kashmir, Sri Nagar), Pakistan Journal of Library Information Science, Knowledge Organisation (USA/Germany) to the International Journal of ICT and Human Development (USA/Spain). He has visited Germany, France, Finland, England, Nepal, the Netherlands, Belgium and Sri Lanka in connection with professional work. He served as a Visiting Fellow for three months in Maastricht McLuhan Institute, University of Maastricht, the Netherlands in 1999 and for another six weeks in May 2001.
