This book discusses optical technologies for Diabetic Foot management. It combines the current medical literature review with an overview of the technology and physics behind it. Thus, it is a single source intro to the topic. It also can be used as a reference source and practical guide for the use of technology. The particular focus is on low-cost technologies, including hyperspectral imaging, thermography, and endogenous bacterial fluorescence. Moving diagnostic modalities closer to the patient (e.g., primary care) allows the disease to be detected at an earlier stage, thus improving outcomes.

However, while some optical technologies are available commercially, they have not received wide clinical adoption due to gaps in knowledge translation to mainstream medicine. This book aims to narrow this gap with practical illustrations. The book will be of interest to a broad range of healthcare professionals, clinical researchers, engineers, and decision-makers, who are dealing with complications of diabetes. Key Features: Reviews the current state of technologies. Provides a practical guide with practical considerations and illustrations. Supplies a 360-degree view of the combination of clinical information with a technology background and primers on physics and engineering. Gennadi Saiko is an accomplished scientist and MedTech entrepreneur with a successful track record in academia and industry. He earned his MSc and PhD in Applied Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics in Technology.

Gennadi is an expert in bioimaging modalities with almost 20 years of experience. Professionally, he worked in R&D and leadership positions at several MedDev companies. Currently, he consults several MedTech companies on technology development and regulatory affairs. In addition, Gennadi is an Adjunct Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University with primary research areas in wound care, cardiology, emergency and critical care. He regularly speaks and writes on various MedTech topics. Robert L. Bartlett is a Magna cum Laude graduate of the University of South Alabama School of Medicine. He holds multiple certifications.

These include Certified Physician Executive (CPE), Certified Wound Care Specialist (CMET), Hyperbaric Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. Educationally, he has trained more than 6,000 healthcare professionals in wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Professionally, he has served as the CMO for several SaaS-based wound care companies and two of the largest wound care management companies in the US, providing services to 500+ hospital programs. Jose L. Ramirez-GarciaLuna holds an MD, an MSc in epidemiology and biostatistics, and a PhD in experimental surgery. He is certified as an emergency and critical care doctor and has authored over 60-peer reviewed articles on wound healing, translational research, the immunology of healing, surgical innovation, hyperspectral imaging, and artificial intelligence. He is affiliated with the Division of Experimental Surgery of McGill University and the Faculty of Sciences of Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He currently works as a consultant for several healthcare companies on technology development, validation, and clinical research.
