Becky Nurse of Salem received its world premiere at Berkeley Rep in December 2019, in a production directed by Anne Kauffman. The play will receive its New York premiere at Lincoln Center Theater in the fall of 2022. Becky Nurse of Salem was commissioned by Berkeley Rep and developed in The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep's Center for the Creation and Development of New Work. The TCG edition of Becky Nurse of Salem will includean Afterword by Sarah Ruhl. Sarah Ruhl is a celebrated playwright whose work has premiered on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in many theaters around the world. Ruhl's other plays include How to transcend a happy marriage, For Peter Pan on her 70th birthday, Stage Kiss, Passion Play, Dead Man's Cell Phone, Eurydice, Late: A Cowboy Song, Melancholy Play, adaptations of Chekhov's Three Sisters and Virginia Woolf's Orlando, and the Pulitzer Prize finalists In the Next Room (or the vibrator play) and The Clean House. Recently she adapted her play Eurydice into an opera with Matthew Aucoin, which premiered at the Metropolitan Opera. She is one of the most produced playwrights in the American Theatre.
Ruhl received the 2016 Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award. Ruhl received the 2004 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for The Clean House. Ruhl was awarded the 2016 Samuel French Award for Sustained Excellence in American Theatre. Ruhl is also a recipient of Whiting Writers' Award, a PEN/Laura Pels Award, and a MacArthur Fellowship She currently teaches playwriting at the Yale School of Drama.
