Susan Rose (Ph.D. Cornell 1984) is Charles A. Dana Professor and Chair of Sociology and Director of the Community Studies Center at Dickinson College. She is author of Keeping Them Out of Satan: Evangelical Schooling in America (1988), and co-author of Exporting the American Gospel: Global Christian Fundamentalism (1996). She has published some 40 articles on gender, violence, trauma and memory; the interactions among religion, political economy, and social policy, including sex education; and (im)migration. She has produced multi-lingual documentary films on the Global Clothesline Project, the Lipan Apache and the Carlisle Indian Boarding School (the award-winning Lost Ones: Long Journey Home), and (im)migration and community-building in Patagonia (Mosaico Argentina: Destino Patagonia). She has appeared on numerous radio shows, including NPR's 'Best of Our Knowledge' and her work has been translated into five languages.


She received the Michael Harrington Distinguished Teaching Award from the National Forum on Poverty and the Society for the Study of Social Problems (2003) and the Distinguished Teaching Award from Dickinson College (2001). She is currently a Fulbright Specialist Scholar.
