Guided Participation in Cultural Activity by Toddlers and Caregivers
This volume focuses on caregiver-toddler exploratory interactions in two rural and two urban communities around the globe. A key cultural difference entailed whether the adult took responsibility for the child's learning or whether the toddler was expected to learn from observation. Community values and practices in segregating versus including children in adults' lives related to the many observed differences in characteristic behavioural patterns of both the caregivers and the toddlers.
