Bishop Bone makes a living consulting for banks in and around Lawton, a small town in south Mississippi. A seemingly easy assignment comes his way: observe a liquidation auction for a group out of Chicago, really due diligence window dressing for the slick managing partner. Trouble begins when Bone unsuspectingly objects to a plan to destroy the auction documents. Investors about to lose millions on the auction see Bone's objection as a reason to be concerned about the legitimacy of the auction. A series of deaths follow the auction, possibly accidental but Bone is suspicious and as he digs deeper into the auction, he becomes the killer's next victim. A story of greed, revenge and murder.
