Approximately 4% of this book is a preview for another story.Garrett keeps telling himself that there is no such thing as coincidences, certainly not in detective work. However he seems to be having quite a few lately. More than that, he's having a difficult time trying to explain them away without admitting to their existence. He also just went through a breakup in which the woman abandoned him for, of all things, a defense lawyer. Though he never asked her to marry him, he's finding it very difficult to deal with it.A short time after the story starts, he finds himself involved in the two biggest current cases in Los Angeles. He's assigned to find a serial cop killer and he's warned firmly to leave the other case alone.
Then again, even his supervisors know better. There is no way he's going to ignore the apparent murder of the blue-eyed blonde he wanted to marry, even though she did leave him.
