Coloring is not only a beloved childhood activity that can provide hours of fun no matter your age, but the focus required to tackle an intricate coloring project can calm even the most stressed and anxious among us -- and that's no small accomplishment. That's why I created this One Thought at a Time coloring companion. For those new to mindfulness and journaling, it's an easy, relaxing way to practice the basics of mindfulness almost effortlessly. I've always said journaling is like cheating when it comes to being mindful, and coloring works in much the same way, but with one major difference: instead of translating your thoughts and emotions into written words for the page, the act of coloring leaves your mind free to contemplate a word, emotion, concept or affirmation of your choosing, allowing you to direct your attention away from negative thoughts and toward positive thoughts. Again, no small feat. You can also color for the sheer fun of it, of course, and let your mind wander where it will. In fact, some days that may be exactly what you need to de-stress and unwind.
