Adonis returns to his island of birth many after working many years in Ameriki and soon finds himself elected as Mayor. Along with his close friends he hopes that all that he loves about the island and his dreams of what it could be like can be made real. It proves to be harder than he thought. His hopes for improving the island flounder. And against the backcloth of the Greek economic and democratic crisis he begins to despair. Youth unemployment across Greece continues at 50%. The island totters on the edge as survival as people struggle to make a living. For young people there seems little chance of future there.

The continuing depletion of the population suggests that it is only a matter of time before it is totally abandoned. On top of this there is an ingrained conservatism that resists all Adonis' plans to not only assure the islands future for generations that follow but also to progress. It is only a sense of humour that he shares with his close friends that keeps him afloat, just about. He is almost resigned to failure until he encounters one of the dread-locked summer free campers. For many of us who holiday on the Greeks islands, the sun charmed idyll masks a harsher reality. The book explores this actuality with humour and hope.
