A young woman finds herself in hospital. Sometimes she thinks she is Lina, or Carolyn Mars, or Dr Moreau, or one of the Vril-Ya. Sometimes she thinks she is related to the hero Hercules. Other times she thinks she may be a Martian. Most of the time, she doesn't know who she is. Other patients and staff objectify her, and so being a sexual object is the only identity she knows. One day, her relative, Mr Spartan arrives at the hospital, discharges her and takes her to her new home. And so begins a process of discovery in which she learns who and what she is and finds that she has a purpose far greater than knowing her real name.
The first-person narrative of a deeply-troubled young woman, showing either an ascent to some kind of transcendence, or a descent into madness. This story draws on classical mythology and late nineteenth century speculative fiction as a means of exploring love, happiness and personal identity within a context of massive personality dysfunction.Warning: occasionally violent, with indirect sexual content.
