Leticia Ordaz is an award-winning author, publisher, and anchor/reporter at KCRA 3 in Sacramento, California. A journalist for 20 years, she grew up in Sacramento County and graduated from Sacramento State. Since becoming a mama 9 years ago, it has been her goal to publish diverse books. As a Latina mother of two Spanish-speaking boys, she sees the importance of having more bilingual books for them and other children to choose from. After spending countless nights translating picture books to her children in Spanish, Leticia decided it was time to write her own stories for the world to read. She wants her sons to be proud of their Latinx culture and find children who look like them represented in more picture books.Did you know that only 5% of children's book authors or illustrators are Latino and only 7% of all children's books published last year were written or illustrated by people of color? Of the books published in the U.S.
, only 5% currently feature a Latino as the main character. These are the findings from the Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC) which releases statistics every year on the number of children's books by and about people of color. It's time to rise and be the change you wish to see in the world. Cielito Lindo Books plans to break those barriers in literature by representing all children and teaching them the importance of learning and preserving the beautiful Spanish language.
