San Diego native Jamie Newbold was raised by his parents who indulged his whims while encouraging his love of books and writing. His father also taught him about vintage comic books which Jamie eventually turned into a passion for both buying and selling them. His hobbies and interests are just as diverse as his background. As a former student of paleontology and carpenter, he never outgrew his love for hiking or woodworking. He recognized the need for direction in his life and sought out a career with the San Diego Police Department in 1980. Jamie spent many years mentoring, supervising, and aiding both new and veteran police officers to be effective crime solvers. After becoming a narcotics and street gang expert, he was able to prepare these officers for the challenges of bringing arrests to court. The other In the Company of Cops books paint the picture of the lives of street cops that worked in an outpost in San Diego that no one wanted to work.

A career-ending injury forced him into early medical retirement in 2000.He currently owns a collectibles store in San Diego along with being a full-time storyteller and writer. Other published works include the Forensic Comicologist, a book about his store. Jamie lives in San Diego with his wife Kim. His son Mike is a campus police officer at Duke University, and has blessed their lives with a beautiful granddaughter.
