Summit County and northern Ohio played an important part in the War of 1812, especially during 1813. Fort Meigs, Fort Stephens and the Battle of Lake Erie were so important early on to swing the War in our favor. Many veterans of the War settled in Summit County and are buried in our cemeteries.
