David was born in San Francisco, CA. He developed a passion for music very early in life and started piano at age 4, which continued through high school. At about age 11, drums and percussion became the instrument of choice, and shortly after at the age of 13, he started drum lessons as well as gigging locally beginning at age 15. David has performed with many artists over the years, including Ira Sullivan, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Chubby Checker, Platters, Tokens, Coasters, Del Shannon, Ronnie Spector, Joan Rivers, Donny Most, Buddy Hacket, Hal Linden, the Marin Symphony, and the Utah Symphony. His family moved to Ogden, UT in August of 1973 and he graduated from Ogden High School. He married Holly Peterson in December, 1978 and graduated from the University of Utah in May of 1979 with a Bachelor of Music. He began a Master of Music program at the University of Miami in August of 1980. After graduating in May of 1982, he taught in the public schools and gigged until July 1994, when an opportunity developed to open an office in financial services back in Salt Lake City.
Our two children, David C. and Amanda were born in those early years in Miami. After moving back to Salt Lake City, he reconnected with good music friends of the past, and immediately began gigging and taking on some private students as well working in financial services. Both of our children graduated from Olympus High, being very involved in music in all areas. In January of 2004, David opened Wasatch Music Coaching Academy, a long time dream and left financial services behind. WMCA has become a strong force and influence in the area, with currently nearly 200 students, including contracting teachers to instruct music at 4 local Utah Youth Centers. There are currently 7 student music ensembles at WMCA. Our students perform up and down the Wasatch Front, which annually include the Utah Arts Festival, the 9th and 9th Festival, Avenues Fair, countless local fundraisers, along with other ongoing various public and private events.
